Cascate del DardagnaOne of my favorite places among the many things worth seeing in the Park of “Corno alle Scale” (near the thermal town of Porretta Terme) is the Dardagna Falls.

I like them because to reach them you have to walk for a short while in the woods, but nothing really strenuous. The course of the Dardagna is about 25 km and ends at Rocchetta, when it joins the Scoltenna River and gives origin to the Panaro River.

A good place to start the hike to the falls is the Shrine of the Madonna dell’Acero, which dates back to the XVI century, and is situated on the road from Vidiciatico to Corno alle Scale, close to Pian d’Ivo.

The Shrine is built on the place where, in the XVI century, the Virgin miraculously appeared to two young deaf-mute shepherds, who had taken refuge under a maple during a storm. It’s said that the boys were miraculously healed and regained the use of their tongues.
