The Monteveglio Abbey

A really beautiful place to visit in the outskirts of Bologna is the Regional Park Abbey of Monteveglio. Established in 1995, it extends to the left of the Samoggia and Ghiaia di Serravalle streams, on the hilly range that rise above at the back of the modern, populated Monteveglio, for a total of 900 hectares!
A good part of the park is occupied by badlands, where antique clay rocks are laid bare, the territory is enriched with numerous historical elements, among which the remains of a castle stand out, famous for its medieval happenings, and the Santa Maria abbey religious complex.
Inside the interior walls of a most ancient construction (1092) there’s an excellent restaurant, “Trattoria del Borgoâ€, in an air-conditioned room. Pointed out even in the best Italian guidebooks, their specialties consist of: first courses of handmade fresh pasta. Tigelle and fried gnocco with quality cold cuts. Fresh mushrooms all year round.
