Travel to “Isola del Giglio”: Part II
April 8th, 2007 by admin
One of the first itineraries we tried was a path that led us to the northern point of the Island, called “Punta del Fenaio.” First we took the car until the zone of “Scopeto”, then we continued by feet. If you want some reference, check the map on this site.

During the trip we could admire (photo above) a nice panoramic view of “Giglio Castello”, which it was originally a citadel placed in a very strategic point of the island , from which you can see the panorama all around.

After a few minutes of walking, something caught our attention, a distant building (photo above), so we decided to come close to check what it is. We went down along a narrow pathway…

…and once we arrived on the bottom, we finally found out what it was: an old abandoned lighthouse ! but what are those purple flower all around it?

Indeed…it was some sort of wild flowers… beautiful! I’m not an expert so I don’t know exactly what species of flower it is, but surely it’s a unique view! We spent quite some time there, observing the sea, the seagulls, and obviously those mysterious flowers…

While driving back to our holiday home, I took this picture of Gigio Porto from a good spot, check out the water, isn’t it really crystal clear?

And last but not least… the classic sunset on the sea! yes, because from this side of Italy you can admire sunsets over the sea, which is a wonderful sight… at least for me, since I never see it from the other side of Italy, on the “Riviera Adriatica”! ![]()
