it was just in front of our holiday village on the Red Sea, when we taveled here a few years back. As you can read, they don’t seem to really care a lot about the tourist health… if you slip on the rocks, drow, scratch your feet on the coral reef, etc, in one word: if you have ANY kind of possible accident there, is your fault!

Clearly I was quite surprised… having such a signpost in the shore just in front of the holiday village isn’t really encouraging! to be honest though, it wasn’t really located in front of my holiday village, but a few meters away on the side, so perhaps that was already “outside the range” of our village…

Another photo taken on my trip to the Red Sea, in the Colored Canyon. The guide pointed out that the stripes in the surrounding rocks almost looked like primeval paintings, made by Mother Nature itself. Actually they really look like drawings!

The huge boulder you see here is on the tour of the “Colored Canyon” that we went to on the Red Sea. I don’t know if this is the real name, but it was like one of those typical western canyons, that you could find in America.

On the tour, you went from open places, where you could admire the walls streaked with thousand shades of red-orange-brown-yellow, to really narrow passages, like the one in the picture above. Practically one huge rock, which blocks the way. I don’t know if it was put there on purpose or by some earthquake or other natural upheaval!

The only possibility is to pass underneath or jump over (which is kind of risky.) To pass underneath, you shouldn’t be too fat, though, because it is a narrow path! So I am wondering what would have happened, had there been anybody on the plump side in our group…

The first time I went to the Red Sea, I have to say that I didn’t enjoy it at all, even though later I realized that it had been because of the wrong time of the year.

Since it is an extremely hot place, the right time is from March to the end of April or the beginning of May at the most. We went at the beginning of June: It could also have been that we went in a particularly bad year (everybody remembers the incredible heat wave that hit all of Europe in 2003,) but the fact is that I remember that vacation as a nightmare!

The air boiling hot and dry, practically all the time locked in the bungalow of the village, which, per se, was really cute…

Even the sea disappointed me. Actually the bright colored fish were there, but, since I am not a great swimmer, I was kind of afraid. There was a long pier and then you would dip into the water: the problem was that you could see the coral reef give way to the darkness of the sea, which gave you a feeling fit for a horror movie (the fear on the unknown!) I even tried to wear a safety vest (with which would have been no problem to float,) but, even so, when I was in the water, I was scared too much!

Therefore pay attention to where you book your trip. Get information beforehand on what the beach looks like… unless you prefer to swim in the wonderful swim pools of the village (see the picture to get an idea)
